Description

Red Pear Tomato is an heirloom variety that produces an abundance of bright red, pear-shaped, cherry tomatoes.  Vigorous, indeterminate, open vines have a high yield of 2″ long tomatoes.  This is a favorite with sweet juicy flavor and great for snacking or in salads.  Combine with Yellow Pear Tomatoes for fun, vibrant color.

Planting Tips for Red Pear Tomato

Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost in the spring for the earliest harvest, maintaining a soil temperature of 75 degrees. Shift hardened seedlings to the garden shortly after the last frost. Grow in the full sun. Water regularly at ground level and fertilize the plants when they are 6″ tall and again in mid-summer. Stake or cage the plants to support branches and save space. Pick the fruit carefully when they are a uniform, deep-red color and firm but before they begin to soften.

For container gardening, use a large container, at least 18″ wide and 2 feet deep with a serious stake or trellis/cage.
