Description
Summer Bibb Lettuce is a butterhead type of lettuce, prized for the heavy compact heads, superb flavor and heat resistance. The center leaves blanch to light color with a buttery texture and rich flavor. The outer leaves are crisp and juicy. This is a good choice for production in early summer and ideal for containers.
Lettuce does well with beets, bush beans, pole beans, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, onion, radish and strawberries in your garden or containers. You can also plant your lettuce at the base of young sunflowers for a little shade.

Plant: Directly sow the seed into fertile soil as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring. Repeat at 2-week intervals until late spring, and again in late summer and fall.
Care: Water plants regularly and fertilize when they reach 3″ (7.5 cm) tall. Provide some light shade for the late spring and summer sowings.
Harvest: Pick the outer leaves as needed. The center leaves form a loose head which is harvested by cutting off the entire plant.
Health: Lettuce is rich in fiber and a good source of potassium, Vitamin A and folic acid.
