Royalty Purple Pod Beans are a great heirloom variety for growing in children’s gardens, as the deep purple pods are easy to see and watch as they grow. Bush type, sturdy plants have good vigor in cool soils with tender, meaty and crisp pods. The round, to slightly oval, purple pods turn green while cooking. This open-pollinated variety is excellent for freezing and canning or fresh right out of the garden.
Beans enrich the soil with nitrogen for heavy nitrogen users like corn and grains. Plant beans with carrots, celery, chards, corn, eggplant, peas, potatoes, brassica (mustard family), beets, radishes, strawberries and cucumbers. Keep your beans away from alliums.
